Thermal Performance of LSF Wall Systems with Vacuum Insulation Panels

چکیده

Lightweight Steel Frames (LSF) in building construction are becoming more popular due to their fast, clean, and flexible constructability. Typical LSF wall panels made of cold-formed thin-walled steel lipped channel studs with plasterboard linings. Due the high thermal conductivity steel, these components must be well engineered covered against unintended bridges. Therefore, it is essential investigate heat transfer different configurations reduce loss through walls by lowering transmittance, which would ultimately minimise energy consumption buildings. The effect novel insulation material, Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIP), position on configuration, Oriented Strand Board (OSB) plasterboard’s transmittance were investigated numerical analysis. A total 56 112 finite element models analysed compared minimum U-value requirements UK regulations. Numerical model results exhibited that using plasterboards instead OSB has no considerable walls. However, 77% (4 times) reduction was introducing 20 mm VIP. Moreover, VIP negligible. Based results, optimum proposed highlighting methods. Additionally, this study, literature, seeks identify other areas additional research can conducted achieve desired efficiency buildings systems.

Investigation of Long-Term Thermal Insulation Performance of Vacuum Insulation Panels with Various Enveloping Methods

To practically apply vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) to buildings or home appliances, VIPs have demanded long-term lifespan with outstanding insulation performance. Service lives of VIPs enveloped with Al-foil and three-layer Al-metallized envelope are calculated. For Al-foil envelope, the service life is longer but edge conduction is too large compared with the Al-metallized envelope. To incre...

A simple and effective model for prediction of effective thermal conductivity of vacuum insulation panels

The excellent thermal insulation performance of vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) make them widely applied in energy conservation fields, especially in buildings engineering. This research work proposes a simple, yet extremely effective, alternative model for prediction of the effective thermal conductivity (ETC.) of VIPs. The ETC. of VIPs is function of the thermal conductivity of the core mater...

Evaluation of Mechanically and Adhesively Fixed External Insulation Systems Using Vacuum Insulation Panels for High-Rise Apartment Buildings

Buildings account for a significant portion of a nation’s total energy consumption. To meet the global demand for greater energy efficiency, many countries are drastically strengthening insulation regulations for buildings. Thus, dramatically thicker wall insulation may be required, which can adversely affect the value of a building by reducing its effective floor area. Hence, high-performance ...

Hygric Performance of a Sandstone Wall Retrofitted with Interior Thermal Insulation

Temperature, relative humidity and overhygroscopic moisture fields in a sandstone wall provided with interior thermal insulation were calculated in order to assess the hygric performance of the retrofitted wall. Computational simulations showed that during the time period of 10 years which was subject of investigation no overhygroscopic moisture appeared in the analyzed building envelope so tha...

Building Retrofit using Vacuum Insulation Panels Hygrothermal Performance and Durability Thesis for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy

Many old buildings have unsatisfactory thermal performance compared to the standards of today. One way to increase the thermal performance is to add thermal insulation to the building envelope. However, many old buildings are listed and considered to be valuable for historical and esthetic reasons. This often limits the position and thickness of the additional insulation layer. Vacuum insulatio...
